Interactive map of the city

You will find the new, interactive map of St. Wendel  here  (or click on the map).

The population of St. Wendel, with its nearly 30.000 residents, has been increasing steadily over the last years. The reason for this development may be, in addition to the favorable infrastructure, the attractive residential districts. St. Wendel is a self-confident, modern center of economics, service and various events.  The quality of living and housing is very important here. All over the city, new meeting points and cultural institutions have been created to promote social life. The different districts of the city have kept their own caracter and thus help to complete the image of an amiable city in a green environment.

Urweiler

The center of this district is marked by the catholic church which was before a memorial chapel for soldiers. The tower on the Bosenberg offers a splendid view over the surroundings of St. Wendel.  (back to map)

Marth

Marth lies in the middle of the valley of the Oster and is protected by two mountains, the Buberg and the Kehrberg, the beginning of the natural resort Saar-Hunsrück. An often frequented recreation area with shelter and children's playground has been installed on the Buberg, which is, by the way, one of the best observation points of the valley of the Oster.  (back to map)

St. Wendel (downtown)

The city with its own caracter. The historical part of the city with its well restored private houses around the basilica, the colourful, decorated gables and the charm of the old alleys gives even nowadays a lively impression of the city in ancient times. In St. Wendel, people like to go out and meet friends.  (back to map)

Saal

This nice little village in the valley of the Oster is ideal for hiking.  (back to map)

Leitersweiler

The beech trees of Leitersweiler in a 400 year-old forest, are very much appreciated for excursions. Hiking trails lead through the attractive surroundings into interesting (from the point of view of nature) and historical (as far as the village itself is concerned) recreation areas, such as for instance the lake in the 'Buchengraben' with the natural monument 'Hainbuche'. A hiking map is available, which gives many attractive and useful hints for the planning of excursions in and around Hoof.  (back to map)

Werschweiler

Werschweiler is a village in the natural resort. The center is a listed building: the church dating back to 1838. The natural resort 'Tiefenbachtal'  with its biotope in the valley is very well renowned for excursions. This wide moor area is the home of  many birds, butterflies and amphibious.   (back to map)

Osterbrücken

You enjoy pure nature all along the river Oster, which has been put back into its original condition. The instruction path by the side of the Oster informs about the measures taken to this purpose and leads to the idyllic 'Neumühle' (mill). You should plan ample time to enjoy beautiful and interesting things on the wayside,  perhaps have a pick-nick in a calm corner and have a good look at the beautiful country. The camp site near the hall in town is very attractive for young people. The biological farms 'Martinshof' and 'Birkenhof' are known all over Germany and offer on their 'farm-days'  an interesting program for the whole family.  (back to map)

Winterbach

The instruction path through the forest and along the brook near Winterbach provides interesting information, among others on the fresh water supply. The natural monument 'Dick Eich' (big oak) which is 300 years old besides the old roman road, should also be visited. Not only the splendid view, but also nice pubs invite you here to stay for a while. (back to map)

Niederkirchen

During the flower season of the cherry trees, it is said that Bubach wears its 'wedding gown'.  (back to map)

Niederlinxweiler

The protestant church built in 1775 by Stengel, is the center of the town. Several observation points, in particular the one on the Spiemont, offer a panoramic view over the landscape of St. Wendel and Ottweiler. Many archeological discoveries prove the historical importance of this area. In the local museum, Hedestrasse, open upon appointment, objects from the Stone Age up to the Middle Age can be seen - a gold mine for specialists as well as for laymen.  (back to map)

Oberlinxweiler

Oberlinxweiler was first mentioned in a document in 871. Roman tombs and traces of a roman villa prove however that the area was inhabited already long before this time.  The nature reserve of the Steinberg, an area of over 40 hectares, offers a habitat for a multitude of plants and animals in danger of extinction. A rare type of buzzard and eagle owls fly over the quarry and the wooded surroundings and in the 'silver lake' lives a very rare fish. The geological formations in the quarry showing the history of the earth and its geological development are also very interesting. The quarry is a must for the  excursions of the geology students of the University of Saarbrücken. A hint for the horse fans: the riding hall in the 'Mühlengrund'. (back to map)
