Children and youth

St. Wendel was distinguished by the Federal Government in 1997 as being particularly suitable for children and families and thus received official approval for their above-average social accomplishments.

The task of the childrens' advisory board is to determine, present and assert together with the children, that the various childrens' interests are taken care of. At the same time, the board is advising public and private authorities which are working with children. The childrens' advisory board works closely together with the administration of the district town of St. Wendel, the youth welfare department of the district  and all institutions in the district town of St. Wendel in connection with children.

The board consists actually of 11 members from the following institutions: hospital (day-care, crèche, kindergarten), district town of St. Wendel, CDU-parliamentary party of the municipal council, SPD-parliamentary party of the municipal council, information center for families of the bishopric Trier, 'Knackpunkt' - information center for drug prevention and therapy of addicts, 'Lebenshilfe St. Wendel', association  "Kleine Hände", youth welfare dept. and schools.
