The road of the sculptures

A series of 16 sculptures created by 17 artists from 7 different countries, installed in the landscape between St. Wendel and Baltersweiler, is the starting point of the road of the sculptures. A total of 51 big blocs of stone, up to nine meters high and weighing up to 65 tons,  is one of the most important cultural attractions of the Saarland: the "road of the sculptures", extending over 25 km from St. Wendel to the lake Bostalsee. In attractive surroundings, along the Saarland hiking circuit, 48 artists from eleven different countries have created a gigantesque open-air gallery which is unique in Germany. The begin was an interesting experiment initiated by the local artist Leo Kornbrust, who wanted to move artists out of their studios into the open landscape in order to formulate their messages with mutual discussions and work. The "road of the sculptures" invites walks or tours. A walk requires about half a day and with a bicycle, about two hours are needed to pass by all of the 51 art objects. There are many possibilities under way for a stop or a pic-nic, far from the mad rush.
