Travel Guide and Location
St. Wendel is easily reached via the tight network of European and German freeways. The most important connecting roads are the Motorways A1 from Cologne, A6/A62 from Frankfurt/Mannheim and the Bundesstraße B41 from Neunkirchen to Idar-Oberstein. The closest international airports are also within easy reach via freeway: Frankfurt International Airport within about 2 hours and Luxembourg Airport within about 1,5 hours drive by car. Saarbrücken Regional Airport is about 45 minutes by car. Internationally known car rentals like Hertz, Avis and Europecar are available and are offering truck rental as well. St. Wendel is also connected to the network of long-distance trains of the "Deutsche Bundesbahn", via way of Saarbrücken, Mannheim or Mainz with direct connections to the international Airport of Frankfurt (Airport Sprinter of the German Railroad Association leaving St. Wendel 04h40AM and arriving at St. Wendel at 00h16 AM.) Please see also City- and Road Maps on our websites under "Stadtführer".

The City of St. Wendel, the site of this World Cup race, is located in the Bundesland Saarland in the far Southwest corner of the Federal Republic of Germany, bordering Luxembourg and France and only a short distance away from other neighboring West European countries. The City of St. Wendel and the "St. Wendel County" are part of the "Naturpark Saar-Hunsrück" whose topography is characterized by well-wooded, medium altitude hill-country of high recreational value. The altitude ranges from 400 to 800 meters above sea level. The City itself has about 30 000 people and is divided into 16 very rural districts. The city center looks back at a long history. For example, Old Town St. Wendel goes back to the middle ages and is very popular with tourists.

Over the last years, St. Wendel's organizational team has gained great experience in organizing Mountain Bike and road-racing events.  So St. Wendel has been organizing five World Cup races in a row from 1996 – 2000 and is looking forward to hosting the World Championship Cyclocross in 2005.
