The city of St. Wendel has created another attractive alternative for the ecologic tourism as well as the daily traffic with the new 12 km cycle-way from St. Wendel to Tholey, using a former railway track. The success of this project is obvious, considering the many cyclists, skaters and joggers under way on the entirely asphalted course through the beautiful countryside. The first part of the course, 6,5 km, until Oberthal , il already in use. The remainder will be finished  in 2006. An infrastructure to be installed, with information panels, parking places, recreation areas, toilets, pubs and short cuts into the city center of St. Wendel will transforn this cycle-way, which is entirely even,  into a recreation paradise.

The district town St. Wendel has, in the past years,  gained  a very good reputation as a center of the cycle sports, due to a multitude of international sportive events, like the worldcup of the mountainbikers and the international mountainbike-marathon St. Wendel. The city has now created a cycle-way system designed in particular for families, with 8 tracks totalling 213 km. The course of the international St. Wendel mountainbike marathon, which is also included in the system, will be interesting for the well trained cyclist , who is looking for a challenge. The designers of these bicycle tours have considered that it is important to have ample time during the tours to have a look at beautiful and interesting things on the wayside or to have a break at a particularly lovely spot, or to enjoy a splendid view over the St. Wendel countryside. This is the reason why you will receive information on the attractions in addition to the description of the course.
